Winning the Alternative to Cuts
Student protests over fees won concessions on tuition fees and created splits in the Con-Dem Coalition. Tens of thousand of workers, students and public service users have supported local campaigns against cuts, with some small but significant successes. As the movement against cuts grows around the country questions are being raised about what kind of action is now needed to permanently stop the Con-Dem Coalition attack. Join the debate about how we can build the most effective resistance possible.

COUNCIL chiefs have admitted pensioners, the poor and the disabled face being hit hard by massive cuts.
In a frank assessment of planned £119m savings, Oxfordshire County Council said OAPs were at risk of greater isolation by cuts to social services and libraries.

Cuts spark concern for day centres

PENSIONERS are becoming increasingly worried council cuts could lead to the permanent closure of day centres.
Cheap transport to and from the centres has already been withdrawn for new users, and there are fears it will phased out altogether next year under £1.3m of cuts by Oxfordshire County Council.

The metropolitan police are telling the TUC that they can’t handle all the coaches anticipated for the March 26 demonstration. This is rubbish. The police coped with the transport for the 2 million people who came to the Stop the war demonstration in 2003. Police want protesters to park on the outskirts and use public transport (buses?) for the rest of the journey.

BUDGET DAY PROTEST
The Con Dem coalition plan a cuts and austerity programme spread over 4 years. What we’ve seen announced in their emergency budget and spending review represents an opening barrage, more will follow. We have to let them know at every turn we will resist. This is another opportunity to build the national TUC March for the Alternative on March 26.
